In Dubai :)

Hey kids,

So I've made it to Dubai with only one flight left - woohoo! I'm trying to think of interesting highlights for you guys but I have a splitting headache so thinking is really hurting. But here goes :)

Got to share the first flight with Bec, a friend from church on her way to Cambodia. It was so lovely, both of us were a bit nervous and keen to have a familiar face around, and a kind shoulder to slobber on when we finally fell asleep! I think between us we got about two hours but oh well! I then waved Bec off at KL, sat around the airport for a while longer (like, 6hrs longer!), read some Blue Like Jazz, wrote in my journal, read some briefing notes, read more of Blue Like Jazz, made a list of random things, watched people, made shadow puppets and fiiiiinnnallly boarded for Karachi!

Had a chat in the boarding lounge with a lovely guy from Canada, he worked as an aid worker in East and Central Africa for some years, notably Rwanda during and post-genocide 1994. However he had family in Aus and had to choose between the two so is now living in Melbourne driving taxis - crazy!

I checked in for my accra flight just before (in dubai airport) only about 12 hours early hehe. Going to find something to eat then a nice spot on the carpet for some snoozing. Everyone looks like joel scot, mr david or yassa arafat, or some unique combination of all three, though my half dead whitey face is gaining me some attention haha, i reaallly need some sleep hey!

thanks to all the cool cats who made it to the airport and today's blog shout out goes to dear joccie for her christmas stocking and cool pressies! love you all!

much love, Laura xx

The first official blog

Hi all!

Here's my first travel blog entry (and the photo is just for decoration!). I'm about 30 hours off flying out, about to repack my suitcase for the third time and making lists on a whole bunch of things I may have forgotten :) Feeling excited and nervous and a bit of everything, but really can't wait just to pull into Accra airport and arrive at the camp!

I'm not sure what my internet access will be like, but hoping to try and jump on once a week...so if you are keen to keep updated check this blog out everynow and then. Otherwise, gonna see how my email account goes and might try and get on facebook here and there as well :) If all else fails, I will be happy to use snail mail - email me your home address if you are keen for a letter or postcard at fraser.laura@gmail.com ! I won't be taking my mobile either.

Check out http://www.volunteer.org.nz/ghana/refugeecamp/ for some background on where I'm going.

If anyone knows how much shampoo a 19 yr old female will use in three months, please let me know, otherwise ciao everyone! See you in three months :)
